Ukraine U-17 National Team Concludes Euro-2024 with a Confident Victory

On May 26, the Ukraine U-17 youth national team (players born in 2007 or later) played their third (and last) match at the European Championship. Unfortunately, after losses to Serbia (0-1) and the Czech Republic (1-3), the team led by Yurii Moroz lost the chance to advance to the quarterfinals. In the match against Cyprus, which also did not earn any points, the teams played only for prestige.

The Ukraine U-17 team secured a beautiful victory in the match against Cyprus (2-0), which was the result of intensive training and game experience. Despite exiting the European Championship, the youth national team played well, demonstrating growing professionalism.

We are especially pleased that all the team's goalkeepers, including Nazar Makarenko, Oleksandr Petrenko, and Illia Voloshyn, used Brave GK gloves during training and matches at Euro-2024. The youth national team's goalkeeping coach, as seen in the photo, also prefers our gloves — the Brave GK Reaction Green model.

How Did the Last Match of the Ukraine U-17 National Team Against Cyprus Go?

In Larnaca, the Ukrainian team controlled the ball from the first minutes. Over time, our players started attacking, creating dangerous moments, particularly Bohdanov and Redushko stood out with their shots on the opponent's goal.

In the 30th minute, Barshak made a precise pass from deep in the field, and Bohdanov, going one-on-one with the goalkeeper, scored the first goal. Before the break, Dmytro had several more opportunities, but did not realize them, while the Cypriots responded with two dangerous attacks.

In the second half, Denysov earned a penalty, which Bohdanov successfully executed. The blue-and-yellows could have increased the score, thanks to the strikes by Redushko, Vakulyuk, and Liusin. In the end, the Ukrainian team won 2-0, taking third place in the group.

Youth National U-17 Team at European Championships: Experience of Performances

For the Ukrainian U-17 team, this is already the 11th final tournament at the European Championship. Previously, the tournament was held for the U-16 category until 2001, but no significant changes occurred. In the 1990s, Ukrainian youths achieved their best results on the international stage, winning bronze in Ireland in 1994. In the following three years (1996-1998), they participated in the final tournaments three times, taking third place in the group.

Over the past two decades, our team has played in the final stages of the European Championship six times. The last time was in 2017 in Croatia, where the team led by Serhii Popov, whose players were born in 2000, won for the first time in twenty years and placed above fourth in the group.

The current championship, in which 16 national teams participated, was held from May 20 to June 5 in Cyprus, at six arenas in Achnas, Larnaca, Paralimni, and Limassol. In the group stage, the Ukrainian team competed in Group A with teams from Serbia, the Czech Republic, and Cyprus.

It is worth noting that the Ukrainian U-17 team has never advanced to the playoffs after seven attempts at the Euro. The victory over Cyprus on May 26 became the second in the history of the final stage of the competition for the "blue-yellows".
