We want to introduce you to a world football legend, a person whose name is well known to older football fans - Mario Stanic. He is remembered as one of the football heroes of Croatia, especially for his contribution to the national team's success in the late 1990s. He played over 50 matches for the Croatian team and helped the team to achieve 3rd place at the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France, which was a historic achievement for the country.
Mario Stanic boasts a successful club career: starting at "Zeljeznicar" and playing for Zagreb's "Dinamo", Stanic made his way into top European clubs - Spain's "Sporting", Portugal's "Benfica", Belgium's "Club Brugge", Italy's "Parma", and England's "Chelsea". Stanic was known for his versatility on the field, able to play in multiple positions, but was primarily seen as a midfielder or forward. He was considered a top-class player for his speed, technical skills, and ability to score from long distances.
Stanic's list of achievements is impressive: Croatian champion (1993), Belgian champion, Belgian Cup and Super Cup winner (1996), Italian Cup winner (1999), UEFA Cup winner (1999), FA Community Shield winner (2000), and World Cup bronze medalist (1998).
After retiring as a player, he worked as a scout for Belgium's "Club Brugge" (2011–2020) and as a sports advisor to the president of Croatia's "Hajduk".
Since October 2023, Mario Stanic has been working as the assistant head coach at Donetsk's "Shakhtar". His transition to coaching is a significant step for both Stanic and the "Shakhtar" club. In his new role, Stanic applies his vast experience and knowledge to help the team reach new heights.
