On August 13th, at their home arena, Lechia defeated Znicz Pruszków with a score of 1:0. For the 28-year-old Sarnavskyi, this standout match marked his first "dry" game, where he managed to keep his goal secured with reliable play. This marked the fourth match of the new Fortuna 1 season (Polish First League), and the second victory for Lechia, but the first on their home turf in Gdańsk. Nearly 9000 spectators in the stands had reason to celebrate after the referee's final whistle, especially considering the hard-fought nature of Lechia's victory. Once again, it was proven that Fortuna 1 is a challenging league with numerous ambitious teams, and the battle for Lechia's return to the Ekstraklasa will be no easy feat. Nonetheless, it's already evident that such an achievement is possible due to Lechia's advantages.
The three points were secured by Lechia's players against a tough opponent, thanks to the professional actions of goalkeeper Bohdan Sarnavskyi and the collective team efforts in attack.
Lechia scored the lone goal in the 28th minute: from a corner on the right flank, the ball traveled to the other side of Znicz's penalty area, where Dominik Piła from Lechia attempted a shot. However, the ball deflected off another Lechia player, Elias Olsson, who was closer to the center of the goal and managed to push the ball into the net. It's particularly remarkable that 20-year-old Olsson had just arrived from Sweden and made his absolute debut not only for Gdańsk's team but also in Polish football overall in this match.
It's worth noting that on Sunday, August 13th, in Gdańsk, two teams at entirely different stages of development faced each other. Znicz Pruszków is a newcomer to the Polish First League, yet they have been playing with a stable lineup for over a year. In the first three league rounds, they accumulated 7 points without a single loss. The strength of this team lies not in individual players, but in collective play. This was clearly evident in Gdańsk. The tall, strong, and energetic Znicz players posed a formidable challenge. Despite occasional hiccups from technically skilled Gdańsk players, Znicz kept their resilience.
On the other hand, Lechia is an experiment, a team built from scratch during the season. The Gdańsk players hadn't undergone a preseason training camp; their understanding of each other's strengths was formed solely during matches. And these advantages are growing. In the match against Znicz, a new forward for Lechia, 20-year-old Colombian Camilo Mena, entered the field in the 67th minute. His involvement in a few plays was enough for fans to sense his exceptional talent, making his presence a reason to attend the stadium. Though he hadn't scored, in the final minutes, he impressively aimed at the opponents' goal, resulting in one of Znicz's defenders fouling him and receiving a red card.
In the end, Lechia Gdańsk secured a 1:0 victory against Znicz Pruszków, positioning themselves at the top of the Polish First League table. For the white and green team, this marked their first victory at the "Polsat Plus Arena" in the current season.
